Thanks for stopping by our site! UPROAR was founded by Arkansas meteorologist Dan Koch, along with his wife and daughter. The intent of our organization is to gain a better understanding of various unexplained phenomena that lie outside the accepted views of science.
We are a bit different from most paranormal groups, as they typically focus on one particular field of interest, like ghost hunting, searching for bigfoot, or investigating UFO’s. We have a wide interest in the unknown, so we are active in exploring almost any type of paranormal phenomenon.
We also try to take a skeptical, yet open-minded approach to all of our investigations. The collection of scientific evidence is a priority for us, and if you've seen some of the popular ghost-hunting shows on TV, you'll quickly discover that we have a very different approach to paranormal investigations. Remember, those TV shows are there for entertainment purposes, and they often hype up the drama considerably! If they didn't, people wouldn't tune in, and the show would go off the air. So they've found a formula for success in the entertainment world, and we are looking for success by pursuing a scientific approach.
We are a small, but dedicated group of volunteers located in the Little Rock metro area, and we are looking to grow our team. If you are interested in joining us, click here.
Hi! I’m Dan Koch, and I’m the founder of UPROAR. I’m a meteorologist, and my professional career has taken me all over the country. I moved here to Arkansas in 2001, and I planned to stay for a few years and move on. Something funny happened along the way, however – I met my wife, got married, we had 2 kids - and 20+ years later, I’m still here!
In case you’re wondering, I’m not a TV meteorologist, I work for the National Weather Service. (I’m the one that gets blamed when we forecast a dusting of snow and instead we get half a foot!) I’m also a computer scientist, and of course I have a profound interest in the paranormal.
I’m a scientist by nature, and a lot of scientists steer clear of the paranormal. After all, anything in the realm of the paranormal is pseudo-science – meaning that none of this is accepted as scientific fact or reality.
I grew up as a non-believer in the paranormal, but when I was a teenager my parents moved out of town and purchased a house in the country. We didn’t know it at the time, but the house was haunted – a fact that took me many months to come to terms with. In the process, I became a believer, and over time learned that I’m a paranormal sensitive.
After I graduated college and entered my career, I quickly discovered that the National Weather Service was the recipient of many UFO reports. (This was well before the Internet came along.) I’m not sure why folks called us to report UFO’s – but they did. In any event, I interacted with a lot of people that were reporting strange things. The truth is, the vast majority of the time they were just misidentifications. Planets, stars, aircraft, blimps, and yes – our weather balloons were frequently misidentified as UFO’s.
But some of the reports were truly baffling, and I started independently investigating some of these. I’ve also seen a few strange things over time that I can’t readily explain – you see, meteorologists are always looking up. I don’t mean that in the sense of an inspirational quote, I mean we are always looking up – at the sky! On two occasions I’ve witnessed something briefly that could not be explained conventionally – and on a third occasion I was witness to a major UFO event.
I’ve been studying UFO’s for years, and spent several years doing investigations for other groups. Traditionally we don’t seem to get much “genuine” UFO activity here in Arkansas, but there have been a number of notable events most people probably aren’t aware of.
Until recently I’ve been very skeptical about the existence of most cryptids, notably Bigfoot, Sasquatch, or whatever name it goes by in a particular area. After performing fieldwork, talking with other researchers and witnesses, and watching other investigations, I’ve come to believe that the creature exists – but not in the same way we exist. I don’t think it’s a typical biological entity – it’s something else. Is it a spirit? A shapeshifter of Native American lore? Does it somehow have the ability to shift between our space and somewhere else? I don’t know – but I would like to find out.
So to summarize things, I'm a paranormal sensitive that looks for answers beyond what science is currently able to provide. Hauntings, a search for Sasquatch, or a UFO investigation? I'm down with that!
As you may have guessed, Dan is my dad, and I consider myself pretty lucky in that regard! My interest in the paranormal began at a young age; we were at a funeral home and I was feeling a very strange sensation. My dad started questioning me about it, and realized that I was experiencing the same thing he does. I can "feel" the presence of spirits around me. In fact, I'm what you would call an HSP - a highly sensitive person. I can often sense and experience the emotions of others, and at times it can be overwhelming. I am sometimes afflicted by physical effects on location, which I suspect mimic the pain a spirit felt when it passed. UPROAR team members commonly refer to me as a "medium", although I don't use that title myself. Most mediums are able to communicate with spirits in a two-way fashion, and occasionally I do feel as if this happens. Perhaps I will be a full-blown medium at some point, but I prefer to use the term HSP for time time being.
I am probably more interested in investigating haunted places, with a secondary interest in UFO's. I'm not quite as keen as my dad about running around in the woods looking for signs of Bigfoot! I'm more concerned about the other things that are living in the woods, like snakes, ticks, spiders - not my cup of tea!
As you are probably figuring out, my husband has managed to drag just about everyone in the family into the pursuit of the paranormal. My daughter is very much a willing participant, and over time I've learned that I'm a paranormal sensitive as well. I'm not quite as sensitive to spiritual energy as Dan and Kathryn, but I do sense it when it's strong enough. We will walk into a random place on an average day and Dan and Kathryn will exchange glances and say "can you feel it? There's a spirit here!", and I'm just shaking my head. At any given time, you are liable to find an EVP recorder or spirit box in their posession.
Photography is one of my hobbies and passions, and I'm learning to branch out into video. Sports photography is my true calling, but when I'm not doing that I'm using my gear to photograph and film investigations.
I'm quite a Trekkie, so investigations involving UFO's are of particular interest to me. Before I met Dan I wasn't so sure about whether these were real, but after 20 years of working with him, I can confidently say that they're the real deal. Finally, the US Government has come forward and admitted that there are things flying around in our skies that we don't understand, performing physics-defying feats - and these vessels don't belong to us, nor do they belong to our adversaries. But are they aliens? I think the jury is still out on that one.
