Until a few years ago, I had been pretty skeptical about the existence of Bigfoot (aka Sasquatch). After all these years, we don't have a living specimen, a dead body, or even a single bone fragment from this creature. Moreover, how could a creature so large maintain a breeding population without being detected?
However, this line of reasoning only holds up if you consider Bigfoot to be a living, breathing mammal (or mammal-like) creature. What if Bigfoot is something else entirely? Something paranormal?
For years I had been wondering to myself, "what if Bigfoot is just a ghost of an extinct species? That would explain why we've never obtained a living or dead Bigfoot, but that also leaves a lot of open-ended questions. If Bigfoot was just a spirit, why would we be finding giant footprints? And why do people see a solid animal-like creature? Full-bodied apparitions are quite rare, and often transparent. I don't know of anyone that's seen a "transparent" Bigfoot. And how about the vocalizations Bigfoot makes? Ghosts are difficult to hear, and it's rather uncommon to hear a ghostly voice without the assistance of technology, such as EVP recorders or spirit boxes. Bigfoot seems to have no problem making his vocalizations audible to people for miles around. No, clearly Bigfoot doesn't appear to be a spirit.
So, Bigfoot must be something else. On season 2 of the TV show "Expedition Bigfoot" (a show that is very controversial amongst Bigfoot enthusiasts), there was a moment when two researchers were making sasquatch calls (if memory serves) and they had a thermal camera running, looking thru the woods. Suddenly the thermal camera picked up a brief heat burst all around, and then there were sounds of Bigfoot nearby. The thermal spike was overlooked in the show, but it struck a chord in me. When matter changes from one form to another, thermal energy is absorbed or released. Could Bigfoot be a shapeshifter, changing form from one state of matter to another? That would possiblly account for the brief release of thermal energy picked up by the thermal camera. This is a theory we will be testing in the future with our FLIR cameras.
Another theory I have is that Bigfoot is some kind of trans-dimensional being that is able to travel between our realm and another plane of existence. Granted, that's a pretty far-out theory and there are a ton of potential problems with a theory like that. First off, we have a fairly good idea that other dimensions may exist, but we don't know the first thing about them. Bigfoot appears to be a primative being, so how exactly would something accomplish such a feat without technology? We humans don't have the first clue how to do something like that.
The other possibility is that Bigfoot has somehow evolved to cloak and hide itself at will, much like how a chameleon is able to change color. Only in this case, it would have to be a far more sophisticated form of camoflage, well beyond anything we've every seen before.
In any event, I do think that Bigfoot exists, but I don't think it's a "normal" forest creature. Either it's evolved a sophisticated method of camoflage, or something truly bizzare is taking place - well beyond our scientific understanding.
