UPROAR Case #HA-1CLA-00072, Little Rock, AR

Mt. Holly Cemetery

Background: The Mt. Holly cemetery dates back to the 1840's and includes many notable prominent individuals and families from Arkansas' early history. Burials here include eleven Arkansas governors, thirteen state Supreme Court Justices, four U.S. Senators, four Confedeate generals, and numerous mayors of Little Rock.

Mount Holly was one of the earliest cemeteries to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Claims: This cemetery is rumored to be haunted by numerous ghosts. Apparitions have been seen, and EVP's have been captured. Some of the more specific claims center around spirits of Native American Indians and Confederate Soldiers that wander the grounds at night. It's also been said that tombstones move around the grounds by themselves, and that the ghostly noise of a flute playing can be heard early in the morning.

...Mt. Holly is the Arkansas version of Westminster Abbey in terms of local 'royalty' being buried here...

Dan Koch, UPROAR founder

UPROAR Investigated: Partial; consisted of a brief walk-thru during the daytime with several spirit-box sessions.

Our take: If you can conjure up an image of a stereotypical spooky cemetery, this is it. We would love to do a formal nighttime investigation (that's highly unlikely), but our daytime walk-thru yielded several clear responses over multiple-sweeps of the spirit box. Our two investigators were called out by name multiple times, and the spirits called Kathryn by a nickname that only her closest friends and family members know.(Called her by her nickname three times.) Furthermore, our investigators were 'directed' to a particular area with a spirit giving instructions...'go back', 'keep going' and finally when reaching the destination the spirit declared 'I'm dead.'

Is it haunted: Yes
