EMF Meters

The use of EMF meters during paranormal investigations is highly controversial. Scientists generally believe that there is no evidence showing that EMF meters can detect spirits, and many are quite vocal about their opinion.

Watch any ghost-hunting show and you'll see a very different picture. Investigators will crowd around a meter and exclaim with delight as the readings go up and down. So what's the truth?

Personally, I have a mixed opinion on the matter. I have seen many circumstances where the EMF meter shows transient readings that will start near zero and increase substantially during ghostly encounters. I'm referring to specific circumstances where I am confident there is a spirit nearby due to other device indications, sounds or EVP's occurring, and the way the place "feels" to a paranormal sensitive such as myself. However, I can walk through almost any non-haunted home and find numerous sources of EMF spikes as well.

For example, here are two quick readings I took in my own home just inches from where I'm sitting right now. The first image is a space heater, and at times the readings were jumping up over 75 on the meter. Granted, when you go to investigate a property, you need to obtain a baseline EMF sweep before you even begin - and something like this would be obvious. What I'm trying to point out is, there are many sources of EMF readings, and just because you have a spike - it doesn't mean you are detecting a ghostly spirit. You really can't rely on EMF meter readings by themselves.

The next image here shows an Amazon echo device, and despite being a modern, shielded, high-tech device - it's still putting out a small amount of EMF. The long and short of the story is, unless you are investigating in a location that has no electricity, there will always be sources of EMF that you need to account for. And don't forget, your own devices could be putting out small amounts as well!
