Spirit Boxes

Spirit boxes are nothing more than AM/FM radios that are designed to scan forward (or back) thru radio frequencies. Most boxes allow you to choose the AM or FM band, and how long you wish to scan each channel. I personally use a value of 150ms on my spirit box.

The purpose of this is to allow spirits to communitate thru the sweeping radio frequencies. The biggest problem, of course, is that you will get voices and music coming over the sweeps from actual radio stations, which can be easily mistaken for spirit voices. Most ghost hunting groups open up their spirit boxes and remove the antenna, which greatly limits the amount of "real" radio broadcasts coming through. We've done the same thing with ours.

Despite that, we still get some radio transmissions coming through, especially when we are near a major metro area like Little Rock. With the antenna removed it's far less than it was, but it's not perfect.

The key is to listen for voice responses that occur over multiple sweeps; a voice response over a single sweep is considered suspect.

My dad is pretty skeptical of the responses we get on our devices. As a medium I seem to have much better luck with getting clear responses. On a recent trip to the Mt. Holly Cemetery in Little Rock, spirt voices on our SB-7 were guiding me to a particular location, telling me to "go back", "keep going", and so forth. I had one spirit call out my name three times, and what is remarkable about that is the name it used. It didn't call me "Kathryn", but instead used a nickname only my family and closest friends use. How did the spirits know that? Eventually I reached an area and the spirit responded with "I'm dead". Well, at least he knows...some spirits don't seem to realize their predicament.
